Surface Consistent Amplitude Correction ( SCAC )
Surface consistent amplitude correction estimates and adjust the relative amplitude contribution of sources, receiver, offset, cdp and channel, an a surface consistent basis. Theory the amplitude of any trace is a combination of a number of factors. These include the strength of the shot, the response and coupling of the receivers, the performance of the amplifier channel, the offset of the traces, the density and velocity contrast of the refrecting horizon and other more ambiguous factors, such as ambient noise.
Noise rejection is often required to attenuate as much noise as possible prior to amplitude analysis. The measured amplitudes from individual traces are reconciled to yield surface consistent components for subsequent application to the data. The surface consistent solution may be decomposed into 5 terms, i.e. source, receiver, offset, CMP, and channel components.
